On the cover of dutch magazine ‘Viva’

Today was quite a fun day. The new edition of Dutch magazine ‘viva’ came out… And I am on the cover!

Yes, you’re reading it right: I am on the cover! The magazine asked me for an interview about stereotypes. I said yes because I love to tell my story. The article showcases a couple of women who are all dealing with stereotyping.

There’s this girl who is a blonde model, and gets called out for being ‘dumb’. Then there’s a girl who converted to Islam, and she’s being called ‘suppressed’. All very stupid stereotypes, and all not very true!

My stereotype is ‘piteous’. People often think they have to feel sorry for me, because I’m missing my left hand. But there’s really no need. I prefer people to ask me about it, then I can explain that it’s really not that hard, and that I’m happy just the way I am :).

Marit is the person who started Pretty Different. She was born with only one hand and has struggled with the crazy ideal of perfection. Since accepting that she's different, she started seeing the beauty in 'imperfection'.
