What not to say to autistic people

There’s a lot of misconception about disabled people. So when I found this video about what not to say to autistic people I needed to share it!

All the autistic people in the video get to deal with weird questions on a daily basis. And that’s a shame. I do however think that there’s always room to learn more about all the ways that people can be different, so I always try to approach questions with an ‘no question is too weird’ kinda attitude. Still, some of these things are just too much…

There’s one quote that got me the most. At one point this girl is talking about being bullied in class. Her teachers told her parents that it was actually her own fault, and that she should try harder to be normal. ‘She brings it on herself because she’s different’, is what they said…

And that’s exactly where I disagree. Being different shouldn’t be something to be bullied over, it should be something to celebrate!

Well, enough talk. Let’s watch this thing:

What did you think about the video? Did you learn something new?

Marit is the person who started Pretty Different. She was born with only one hand and has struggled with the crazy ideal of perfection. Since accepting that she's different, she started seeing the beauty in 'imperfection'.
